Laura Erickson received her Master's in Flute performance at the University of North Texas where she studied with Terri Sundberg and Elizabeth McNutt (modern techniques). While at UNT Ms. Erickson served as a teaching fellow in the areas of flute and chamber music, a teaching assistant for the music and medicine program, played in the world renown Wind Symphony, and served as principal flutist of the orchestra. Following her MM, Ms. Erickson was selected to study as a Priddy Fellow in Arts Leadership. Prior to arriving in Texas, Ms. Erickson received her Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University under the tutelage of artist, Richard Sherman where she was also a Budres Scholar, and with Tyra Gilb of the Interlochen Arts Academy where she also attended summer camp.
Ms. Erickson has performed around the world on flute, piccolo, and alto flute in ensembles including the Midland-Odessa Symphony, Lansing Symphony, Jackson Symphony, the Dallas Pops, and numerous touring and arena artists in the DFW area. She was a prize winner and masterclass performer at the National Flute Association Orchestral Competition. Ms. Erickson can be heard on the GIA Windworks and the Mark Masters labels. An active gigging musician, Ms. Erickson is also a member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon.
With a passion for teaching, Ms. Erickson regularly serves as a clinician, judge, and masterclass teacher. She has held positions at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and as a All-State music theory exam tutor, and is a member of the National Flute Association, Texas Flute Society, and Texas Music Educator Association. Ms. Erickson maintains a private flute studio in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area.
